Salsa

Here at Dance Wise we teach what is commonly known as New York/LA Salsa.  This is based on a 'Cross body Lead' structure of moves, integrated with moves initiated from 'Open breaks' from both the man & lady.  Turns are based around spot turns, three step turns and spins which can be danced by both lady and man creating an interesting and intricate group of never ending moves and combinations.

New York Salsa is the main type of Salsa being taught in and around London.  It has tended to take over from Cuban Salsa that was popular in the ealry days of Salsa in London.

People talk endlessly about the styles of salsa and its roots and origins.  They talk endlessly about whether to dance on the 1 or the 2 beats of music.

Simply put, it is correct musically to dance on 2 but very difficult for the social and even most advanced dancers.  Therefore most classes including ourselves teach on the 1 beat which is the strongest beat in the music.

For our main Salsa dance coach at Dance Wise there is only two styles of Salsa.  Good Salsa and Bad Salsa.  Good Salsa dancing should be balanced, effortless, rhythmical, stylish and above all show plenty of 'Cuban  Motion'.  Too many dancers refer to difference styles to hide poor quality dancing.

Remember learn correctly and learn quality.  Our classes are fun and friendly and there is no neeed for a partner as we constantly change partners.  We have beginners & Improvers/Intermediate on Monday and Wednesday evenings (please refer to timetable)
